Before we arrived, we assigned breakfast to some, dinners to others and asked everyone to bring a few of their favorite snacks for the times in between. Pro tip: Do your shopping before you arrive so once you are all together you can just focus on enjoying each other’s company. We enjoyed great food and drink all weekend…and some even shared some fun family favorite recipes!  3. Make time for beach walks…as many as possible! Bella Beach sits above a stunning stretch of the Oregon Coast and offers a beautifully landscaped path to dedicated beach access. We couldn’t get enough and enjoyed beach walks in the morning and at night. A sunset stroll is always a winner!  All of that cool ocean air, those calming seas and soft sand provided the best backdrop for spending quality time together and giving everyone the chance to truly reset and feel recharged.   4. Make sure to enjoy those Meredith Lodging Amenities! We loved checking out the bikes from Meredith Lodging and riding around the neighborhood, not to mention the fact that they made for some of our best photos all weekend. And that fire pit area is a dream!!! Having our feet in the sand while enjoying some wine around the fire? Yes, please! It felt like  our own private patio at a luxury resort. We also discovered that wine + s’mores are a perfect pairing! There also may have been a fairly competitive game of lawn jenga…but what happens in Bella Beach stays in Bella Beach.   5. Discover cool beach towns right outside your door. We are the first to admit we had a hard time even thinking about leaving Bella Beach once we got there but decided to go explore nearby Depoe Bay and Newport. We had delicious morning coffee from Left Coast Coffee Roasters and then spent the day exploring the shops and beaches in these two seaside stops. We also found a new favorite lunch restaurant…The Clearwater in Newport, followed by an afternoon of wine tasting on Noble Estate’s outdoor bayview deck! We were so happy we got out of the house and discovered new favorites, made memories, and that it was all within an easy car ride from “home”.  And a few words about this home….it was a dream!!! We enjoyed our stay so much we all decided to add another night and have already booked for next year! From the comfortable gathering spaces, inspiring beach decor, chef’s kitchen, and comfy beds with luxury linens to the fact everyone had their own bedroom and almost everyone had their own bathroom, it truly was a perfect place to stay. Also that oceanfront hot tub and the gorgeous oceanfront deck made sunset-watching as easy and beautiful as it gets! We loved The Driftwood, and saw many other Bella Beach Resort homes that would have been great options, too.  Thanks to Meredith Lodging for helping us plan a great weekend! The Park is easy to navigate, with nearly 10 miles of mostly flat walking paths and trails for running or for hiking that the whole family, leashed pups included, can enjoy. Tumalo Falls If you time it right, Tumalo Falls is an amazing spot to observe the contrast of dark lava rock, rich evergreens, and vibrant fall foliage. This dog friendly trail is rated moderate, is 6.5 miles out and back, and will reward your efforts with dramatic views of the always-impressive falls. This adventure is popular year-round but offers something extra-special when the trail is ripe with seasonal colors. Hike in from the trailhead or drive to the falls parking lot for instant waterfall viewing. Upper Deschutes River Trail The mighty Deschutes River serves as Bend’s ultimate gathering spot, winding its way through town, and offering a bit of everything…from calm spots to paddleboard, world-class rapids, and hiking paths along its shoreline as it cuts a gorgeous path through Bend and Sunriver. The Upper Deschutes River Trail provides the best stretch to take in stunning fall colors. A couple of staff members in our Bend office recommended this recipe for scalloped potatoes and wow – it’s a game changer! Takes a little bit of time to make but is always a hit with the whole table. A member of our leadership team swears by the Williams Sonoma “Willie-Bird” pre-brined turkey and after trying it, we have to say – we agree! It is a bit of a splurge, and a delicious one, too! She has been bringing it to her celebrations for 10 years at the strong request of her guests! Visitors will enjoy seeing several types of impressive trees in this unique forest, including Sitka Spruce, Douglas Fir, Coastal Pine and Western Hemlock trees. Along the well-maintained nature trail, you will find bridges, observation decks, and places to stop and listen to bird calls and observe resident small animals. The Mike Miller loop is about a mile long and takes about an hour to complete. A truly special experience the whole family will enjoy! Crabbing off the Newport Municipal Pier Catch delicious Oregon Dungeness crab for dinner and make a memory you will keep forever! When these magnificent mammals make their annual migration and return, Depoe Bay is one of the best places in the world to visit if you want to see them. The Oregon Coast is a great bet for seeing whales many times during the year, but there are some times that are better than others. Plan your trip from mid-March to the end of May and you will be treated to the sight of gray whales migrating back to Alaska from Mexico, hugging the coastline as they go. Keep your eyes peeled for Mama whales and their calves, who often prefer to swim closer to shore. From May to the end of the summer, resident whales (ones who call the Oregon Coast home for months at a time) stay close to the shore for feeding.
