Arch Cape Arch Cape is a serene and peaceful coastal community located between Cannon Bach and Manzanita. We also love a stop at Cannon Beach Bakery where there is something sweet for everyone from doughnuts to cookies to sticky buns. Keep an eye out for seasonal treats! Bella Beach Bella Beach is a quiet and protected neighborhood located between Lincoln City and Depoe Bay. The charming neighborhood evokes the feeling of a classic beach community with green spaces, walking paths that lead to the beach, and sidewalks. Dog-friendly parks, a playground for children, and on-site amenities make it a great getaway for the whole family. After a morning stroll on the beach, stop by Café C’est La Vie for a cup of coffee and a fresh pan au chocolate. The kiddos will love their hot chocolate with fresh whipped cream. We also love satisfying our sweet tooth at Depoe Baykery in Gleneden Beach. This bakery is a favorite amongst locals and visitors for their tasty eclairs, freshly baked doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, pies, and more! Spending the holidays with us, but don’t feel like baking? Pick up a made to order cake or pie to serve on Christmas day. Any bakers in the group? This can help avoid last-minute stress and allow for more focused quality time. Prioritize Togetherness Make a conscious effort to prioritize spending time together. Minimize distractions like phones, work, or other commitments during designated family time. Delegate Tasks Share responsibilities among family members or guests to avoid overwhelming one person. This allows everyone to contribute to the preparations, creating a sense of teamwork. Create Traditions Establish or continue family traditions that promote togetherness. Whether it’s playing games, cooking together, or sharing stories, traditions create lasting memories. Limit Technology Encourage everyone to limit their use of technology, especially during shared meals and activities. This can foster more meaningful face-to-face interactions. Express Gratitude Take a moment to express gratitude for the time spent together. Share what you appreciate about each other and the moments you’ve shared throughout the year. Engage in Activities Together Plan activities that promote interaction, such as board games, outdoor games, or group cooking sessions. Shared activities create bonds and laughter. Snuggle up in front of a fireplace, gather for meals, enjoy walks on the beach or hike scenic trails, take a dip in a hot tub under star-filled winter skies, make new memories, and savor precious time with loved ones. We’ve put together some tips for taking your Thanksgiving celebration on the road with Meredith Lodging this year: Choose Your Perfect Home Away from Home What says “vacation” to you? A roaring fireplace, sublime views, a cozy nook for savoring a cup of coffee while you finally get to finish that book that has been gathering dust on your shelf, easy access to outdoor pursuits, a hot tub or spa-like bathtub? We can help you find the perfect home that has all the features and amenities you are looking for. Are you planning to cook up a feast? Make sure you love the kitchen in the home you choose, and there is enough seating to accommodate your group. And if your favorite “recipe” is a reservation, we can help you find a home that is close to many award-winning dining options in Central Oregon and along the Oregon Coast. Room to Entertain and Re-charge Many families and friends return year after year to celebrate the holidays on the Oregon Coast or in Central Oregon. Two things they tell us they always look for are spacious and comfortable gathering spaces to bring everyone together as well as well-appointed bedrooms, bathrooms, and additional spaces for everyone to comfortably retreat to. Book a home that offers features like a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, a large dining space to gather, plenty of seating around the fire, comfortable bedrooms and enough bathrooms for everyone in your group. Taste Locally Staying at the coast? Consider adding some seafood-inspired dishes to your feast! Indulge in a fresh shrimp or crab cocktail, or the smoked salmon from Barnacle Bills in Lincoln City is always a crowd favorite. Giving thanks in Central Oregon? Pick up a local wine or seasonal craft beer to raise a glass in gratitude. Get Moving on Turkey Day Take advantage of the fact that you are gathering in the mountains or at the beach, and plan a Thanksgiving morning outing to get everyone some exercise before sitting down to a feast. A family bike ride, a hike, a walk along the beach – all will fill your lungs with fresh air and your hearts with happy memories before you fill your bellies with delicious food. Note: Many towns host family-friendly Turkey Trots or 5-K runs, so check local listings for community sponsored events Most Importantly – Give Thanks! Many of our guests have shared that celebrating Thanksgiving in a new, beautiful place makes them even more grateful than usual for the blessings in their life. Take a moment to reflect on what you are thankful for and take turns sharing your gratitude around the table. The Meredith Lodging family is so thankful for all of our valued guests and hope you and yours have a truly memorable Thanksgiving! Book SOON for best availability!

If you are planning to be in Oregon the 2nd weekend in October, you may get to experience a sight to behold – an annular solar eclipse. Sky-watchers in parts of Oregon will be among the first in the U.S to see the big show before it continues towards Texas and Central America. Those inside the path of the eclipse will see the sun appear as a bright ring-shaped halo around the edges of the moon for a full 4 minutes before it moves southeast. What Causes the Dramatic Ring of Fire? An annular solar eclipse occurs only when the moon is at its furthest point from the Earth and passes between our planet and the sun. Because the moon is too far away to block out the sun completely, it creates a brilliant “ring of fire” around it. Where and When to Watch The 2023 annular solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path crossing from Oregon to Texas. The eclipse will make landfall along parts of the Central and Southern Oregon Coast (including Coos Bay and North Bend shortly after 8 a.m., before reaching “annularity” at 9:18 a.m. on October 14, 2023. This interactive map from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) will help pinpoint locations to view the eclipse. How to View the Eclipse Safely The only safe way to view a solar eclipse is with special eclipse glasses or a solar filter. Never look directly at the sun, even during a partial eclipse, without protection. The sun’s rays can cause serious eye damage, including blindness. Eclipse glasses are specially designed to filter out the sun’s harmful rays. They are available at most astronomy stores and some retail stores. You can also purchase them online. Solar binoculars are another option for viewing a solar eclipse. They are equipped with special filters that protect your eyes. However, solar binoculars are more expensive than eclipse glasses. If you are planning to view the solar eclipse, be sure to get your eclipse glasses or solar binoculars well in advance. Supplies tend to sell out quickly. Local tip: Get your eclipse glasses at the Coos Bay Visitor Center or stop by a Travel Oregon Welcome Center between Oct. 1 and Oct. 14 to pick up a free pair (while supplies last). Eclipse glasses are available for purchase at the OMSI Science Store. What if I Can’t View the Eclipse in Person? OMSI will be broadcasting the annular eclipse live online. Check out their broadcast schedule to join in the global experience wherever you are. Book Your Solar Eclipse Getaway Today! We have an amazing collection of homes in Central Oregon and the Oregon Coast that will put you in the path of this natural phenomenon. Grab your eclipse glasses and we will see you there!
