Summer is the season for making memories, and the Oregon Coast is the perfect backdrop for family adventures. With miles of sandy beaches, fascinating marine life, and endless opportunities for exploration, the coast offers something for children of every age. Kids can build sandcastles, discover colorful tidepool creatures, and come face-to-face with sharks while creating unforgettable Oregon Coast memories.
Planning a family trip requires more than just picking a destination. You need beaches where little legs can walk without climbing steep stairs. You need activities that engage curious minds. And you need accommodations that give your family space to spread out and relax. With Meredith Lodging’s premier Oregon Coast vacation rentals, you can enjoy all the comforts of home while exploring the best family-friendly attractions the coast has to offer.

Not all beaches are created equal when you are traveling with children. The best family beaches offer easy access, gentle waves, and amenities like restrooms and picnic areas. Here are the top family-friendly beaches across the Oregon Coast.
This hidden gem in north Lincoln City offers one of the easiest beach access points on the coast. The parking lot empties directly onto a packed sand path that leads to the beach. No stairs. No steep hills. You can see the ocean from your parking spot. The beach is wide, flat, and backed by low cliffs. The surf is gentle, protected by offshore rocks, making it safe for wading.
Why families love it: The beach stretches for miles in both directions, so you can walk away from other families to find your own spot. At low tide, you can walk north around the headland to a secluded cove – but check the tide chart first, as this cove is only accessible one hour before and after low tide. A stay in one of our
Cannon Beach is famous for Haystack Rock, and the main access points can be crowded. The Gower Street access point offers the same spectacular views with less congestion. The sand is soft and wide, perfect for building sandcastles. At low tide, the tide pools at the base of Haystack Rock are filled with sea stars and anemones – a magical experience for children of all ages.
Why families love it: The iconic 235-foot Haystack Rock is visible from the entire beach. The gentle slope of the beach makes it ideal for children to play safely in the shallows while parents remain visible from their setup spots higher on the sand. Our Cannon Beach vacation rentals offer easy access to this beloved destination.
Unlike rockier southern coastal towns, Seaside offers a wide, sandy beach protected by Tillamook Head to the south – a geography that makes it one of the safest swimming beaches on the Oregon Coast. Seaside may lack the obvious allure of other coastal towns, but if you have kids in tow, it is fairly unbeatable.
Why families love it: The beach is flat and expansive, perfect for flying kites, playing games, and building elaborate sand structures. The town itself offers classic beach attractions including arcades, bumper cars, and candy stores stocked with colorful saltwater taffy. A Seaside vacation rental provides the perfect base for a classic beach vacation with the family.
For families seeking a quieter beach experience, Rockaway Beach offers miles of sandy shores ideal for building sandcastles and flying kites. This beach is not only spacious but also less crowded than its more famous neighbors. Our Rockaway Beach vacation rentals offer peaceful coastal getaways for families.
Manzanita Beach is another family favorite. The gentle waves provide a safe environment for kids to play. The beach is wide and welcoming, with the charming town of Manzanita just steps away. Staying in a Manzanita vacation rental puts your family steps from the sand and within walking distance of the town’s shops and restaurants.
Ona Beach features a broad sandy beach, a scenic creek estuary, and a family-friendly picnic area sheltered by shore pines. Children can wade, explore, and play safely. Ona Beach is considered one of the most family-friendly stops on the central Oregon coast.
