You’ll also be a 10-minute drive to the sand dunes and level beach of Cape Kiwanda, where Haystack Rock looms offshore, surfers try out the waves and dory boats bring in fresh fish for the local market.

You can grab a beer at the Pelican Pub or dine in style at Meridian Restaurant, or walk along the shoreline to Bob Straub State Park and the river’s estuary.
