A stay in Sunriver will put you right in the middle of some of the best fishing Oregon has to offer. Beginner and advanced anglers can choose from countless lakes, rivers and streams brimming with trout, salmon, catfish, whitefish and bass.

Check out some tips for planning a fishing excursion in Sunriver:

Where to Fish There is an abundance of fishing spots in Central Oregon. We can’t include them all, but here are some local favorites:

Fall River

A few miles south of Sunriver, lies one of the most scenic spots in Central Oregon to cast a line for trout. The cold and clear, spring-fed stream flows through a rolling pine forest, and is open year-round exclusively for fly-fishing.

The Deschutes River

Whether you choose the Upper, Middle, or Lower Deschutes, the picturesque surroundings will provide the perfect backdrop for your angling adventures. The river is home to brook, brown and rainbow trout, as well as mountain whitefish.

Crane Prairie Reservoir

This reservoir boasts spectacular views and excellent boat fishing for bass and trout. The best months to fish are June, July, and August. Boat rentals are available at Crane Prairie resort. Limited bank access.

Davis Lake

You can find some of the best big-bass water in the Pacific Northwest an hour away from Sunriver. Sit back and soak in the majestic views of the Cascade peaks as you wait for your next big catch.

Helpful Tips:

  • Central Oregon’s fishing season generally runs from the last weekend in April until October 31st. We recommend checking the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife site for updated annual information about specific fishing seasons, regulations for each body of water, and the stocking schedule.
  • Children 12 years of age and older are required to have a fishing license. Visitors can purchase a fishing license at the Sunriver Country Store and Camp Abbot Trading Company.
  •  Most fishing spots require a Northwest Forest Pass for day-use access and parking.
