Pacific City, Oregon
Just 22 miles north of Lincoln City on a loop road to Cape Kiwanda, Pacific City has a friendly, small-town atmosphere combined with outstanding natural beauty. In just a few square miles, you can enjoy the gorgeous Nestucca River estuary, stunning views of Haystack Rock, tide pools and sand dunes. You can also join the vibrant social scene at the Pelican Brew Pub and sample unique restaurants, shops and galleries in town. Whether you want a quiet, romantic weekend walking miles of open beach or an activity-filled vacation with the kids, Pacific City has everything you need for an easy day trip or a longer, more leisurely stay on the Oregon coast.
Many outdoor family activities are available right on the beach in front of Haystack Rock: you can tide-pool at the Cape Kiwanda Marine Garden, boogie-board in the waves or climb the steep sand dunes on the beach’s northern edge. Witness daily runs by Pacific City’s dory fleet, which launches and lands fishing boats right on the beach, and watch surfers vie for the best waves. The family-friendly Pelican Pub is steps away for lunch or an award-winning ale at sunset.
You can rent a surfboard or kayak, take a horseback ride down the beach, relax around a beach fire or launch your boat and fish the Nestucca River, legendary for giant Chinook and steelhead. Bob Straub State Park offers 483 acres of beach and dune exploration.
You can time your visit for regular celebrations, including Dory Days and the Birding and Blues Festival. Pacific City is just a half-hour’s drive to Tillamook, the coast’s dairy capital and home of the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Blue Heron Cheese Factory, the Tillamook Air Museum and the Tillamook Forest Center.
If you’ve been meaning to try an alternative to the bigger coastal towns, Pacific City may surprise you with its rich natural resources and busy, beach-town vibe! To learn more about the area, read our What To Do In Pacific City, OR blog post.
